Product information

Read about what you can do with Borax Substitute!

Our grandmothers were right about so many things, including the cleaning power of borax crystals. Borax is 100% natural and you can use it to disinfect, remove stains, deodorise, and soften water. However, pure borax is on the EU's list of Substances of Very High Concern. So we sell a safer alternative instead, which is made with sodium sesqui carbonate.Dri-Pak Borax Substitute still has the great, natural cleaning powers you want, and is just as effective a multi-tasker.

WHAT YOU CAN USE IT FOR

A laundry booster

Just add two teaspoons of Borax Substitute to your detergent drawer. It helps to remove stains and brighten whites.  What’s more, it can soften water, so makes your detergent more effective, even when you use a lower temperature.

A pre-wash soak

If clothes are looking particularly grubby, add around 150g of Borax Substitute to a washing up bowl of warm water and soak the clothes before putting them through the wash.

(Do check a small area for colour fastness first.)

A stain remover

For stubborn stains, make a paste with Borax Substitute and a small amount of water, and smooth it onto the stain. Leave to soak in, then wash as normal.

A multi-purpose cleaner

Mix Borax Substitute with water, lemon juice or white vinegar to create an abrasive multi-purpose cleaner. It’s great for tackling mould, and general kitchen and bathroom cleaning.

A carpet cleaner

Mix half a cup of Borax Substitute with two cups of water. Use a clean cloth to work the mixture into stains. Leave for half an hour before using a damp cloth to remove most of the mixture. Once dry, vacuum well. (It is advisable to test a small area of your carpet for colour fastness before using on larger areas.)

A carpet freshener

Sprinkle Borax Substitute on your carpets to freshen and deodorise, leave for ten minutes and then vacuum. You can also add dried herbs to the mix for an extra freshening boost.

A bin deodoriser

Dissolve a handful of Borax Substitute in water, then use it to clean, disinfect and deodorise your bin.

Cleaning toilets

Add a handful of Borax Substitute to your toilet bowl and leave it overnight. The next morning, lightly scrub with the toilet brush and flush.

And more!

You can also try using Borax Substitute to freshen and deodorise dishwashers, remove rust stains, remove stains from crockery and pots and to clean sinks. While it is natural, you will want to keep Borax Substitute away from pets, children and food, and rinse clothes well after washing.
